Markus Binapfl: “’Disco’ sure is peaktime!”
With a new track that screams ‘potential smash’ dropping into the download stores today on our Subusa imprint, we grabbed a few moments with Markus Binapfl to talk about ‘Disco’ and his plans for Miami and beyond…
What did you want to achieve with your new track ‘Disco’?
“The track was written around the vocals and as soon as I heard them I thought, it needs to be ‘Disco’, but new skool. I played the guitar and put down some funky chords, but finally worked with only this one chord hit on the downbeat. The groove is a bit urban, bouncy, garnished with some old skool hits. Very simple actually.
“I wanted to twist the whole thing with a surprising break. So all in all, the song is kinda of discourbanfunklectrohousediscoshit thing. Got it?”
Where did the ideas for the vocal come from?
“The vocals, written and sung by the talented Alex Prince were there first and I built the production around it.”
Where did you have in mind for this tune to really work on the dancefloor?
“It sure is peaktime and driving, which works for house and urban DJ sets, I’d say. Works well in my sets already, I might add!”
Are you going to be in Miami this month?
“I have a show in San Diego first and then hit Miami during Ultra week with shows at Arcadia for Subliminal + Friends on the 24th which will be a blast I’m sure. Following this are shows at Nikki Beach, the Gansevoort, a Blu Fin label party, where I will spin under my techno alter ego ‘Kaiser Souzai’ and some more shows, which are still in the making…”
What do you have planned for the summer?
“I’m banging away in the studio, finishing three solo records and a new collab with Erick Morillo, two collabs with buddy Armand Pena, Shawnee Taylor and more stuff pending. As for touring, it will be Europe, Brazil and the US for Summer…and of course one of my favorites: Subliminal Sessions, Ibiza. So yes, this will be a VERY good year. follow me on facebook.com/markusbinapfl.”
