Eddie Amador Interview: Music for Beautiful Ones
With the release of We Are The Beautiful Ones today on Subliminal, the legendary Eddie Amador is back once more with some serious house music, this time in collaboration with our man Harry Romero.
We grabbed a moment with Eddie as he emerged from another intense studio session to get the scoop…
How did this track come about and what did you set out to achieve with it?
Having DJed around the world for over a decade, I’ve seen many beautiful people coming through the rotating doors of discotheques around the globe. I’ve always believed that House Music is a “Spiritual thing, a body thing and a soul thing” however the statement was never complete ie. Why was it made? And who was it for?
House music is a creation by beautiful minds and therefore for beautiful ones. As an artist and mechanical engineering scientist, I needed to say more. I needed to add more to the equation. I needed to make this track that addressed this!”
How do you get on working in the studio with Harry? What works best between you guys?
Oh man, that is where it gets even deeper! Harry and I talked back at WMC in 1999 or 2000 at a Cuban cafe. Since then our DJ and production schedules never gave us the luxury of being in the same city at the same time to talk again. However, we always planned doing something together down the road. As it worked out, when I created ‘We Are The Beautiful Ones’ in Los Angeles, I got to the point where I knew it was good, but… that is where the genius of Erick Morillo comes in. He knew that HCCR could take the track, and with his incredible co-production skills, could give the song the love and tuffness it needed to be a modern day classic. I am honoured and truly Blessed!
This track follows ‘Spirituality’ which caused quite a comotion when it was released earlier this year for it’s quirky sound. How would you describe that track and the feedback you received for it, and what is different to making a track like ‘We Are The Beautiful Ones’?
Some of the best tracks I have loved and played are the quirky ones that either have meaning or none at all. I like it when a track is unique with its bassline and an intense repetitive message which stands the test of time on the dancefloor. Oh Lord!, Myself and D-Good put so many tears and prayers into that one!
‘Spirituality’ was meant to be a very very spiritual and dance/thought provoking/forward thinking track since it’s conception and has become VERY controversial. It has now been banned from the internet by various Spiritual groups/beliefs. Wow!
On the other hand, WATBO is modern house music in its pure, no nonsense ,happy, smiling, shiny and loving form.
What else are you up to in the coming months?
I hope to keep the touring down to an absolute minimum and spend more time in LA and produce more House in the Hollywood studio during this time of year. I LOVE the holidays and festivity of Hollywood/Los Angeles in November and December….We get all the lights and love without the problem of snow and airport delays.
