Chris Montana’s Latest Hustle

Out this week is the Part 2 remix package for ‘Spanish Hustle’, a track Chris Montana just knew would work on today’s dancefloors.

“I was always a big fan of ‘Spanish Hustle’ by the Fatback Band,” he tells us, “I loved that vibe.”

So he felt the time was right to adapt it into a modern day house music monster. Despite this, Chris isn’t a fan of bringing back old classics, unless it’s done really well.

“I actually think there are too many obvious and trivial remakes of old themes and hits,” he says candidly.

“The sample we used is just a very small part, 1 bar, at the beginning of the track. But it’s the groove in it which is so unique and amazing. I would say 99% of the clubbers even don’t know that there is any ‘original’ track from the 70s.”

TO YOUR BONES

He passed the track on to his good friend Denis The Menace, who has also just been enjoying acclaim for an on-point update of the classic, ‘Bamboleo’ on Subliminal.

Denis liked it so much they decided to work on the track further together.

“We wanted to hit the dancefloor directly,” says Chris “It should go straight to your bones and feet to make you dance and… it works really well.”

WENT OFF

Hot on the heels of their finished product comes 2 remixes, both of which get the seal of approval from Chris.

“Chris Moody is one of my favorite remixers at the moment. His productions are very strong and they have this certain groove. I love his version!

“Viktoria used a lot of contemporary sounds and I think it’s a perfect mix for late night. I played this mix last week on my Asian tour, in Hong Kong and people loved it. It really went off.”

Chris himself is now back from Asia and in the studio with Hungarian producer Franco Delmone working on a track with Michelle Weeks on vocals, another one with Etienne Ozborne called ‘La Luna’ and a tasty tribal remix of Afrojack’s forthcoming ‘Esther’.
